Becs & Ceramics

Kia ora koutou.

Welcome to my site where I am  finally getting my A into G and putting some of my ceramic work out there for you.  I live in Tauranga Moana in the Bay of Plenty , Aotearoa New Zealand with my teenage son and a small tribe of animals – cats, chooks, ducks, frogs, fish…probably some other critters too that are benefiting from the relaxed lifestyle we lead at our place.

Me & Ceramics

Back in the mid 90’s I did a night class at the Taumarunui High School, an intro to pottery.  Thoroughly enjoyed it, we turned up our tutor had everything all laid out for us, we created and when we came back the following week it had been through the kiln.

In July 2019 I did another block of night classes with a good friend – my paddling and raranga guru Toia. I had been procrastinating about doing it for so long and was pleased to have someone else to do it with.  The classes at the Bethlehem Pottery Club were fantastic, and it was all on after that!

Getting My Creative On

Since our ‘graduation’ from the night classes I have been creating pieces at home and recently started using the club’s smaller kiln to fire my own work.  Most of the creations I have been sharing on facebook and had so many lovely friends and family urging me to get online and start selling my pieces.  I have been reluctant because I needed to make sure I could make pieces without too much delay.  No sooner had I worked this out, Covid19 struck and I was unable to get to the club to use the kiln.

The lockdown highlighted just how reliant I was on others to get my creative on and out to people.

My Goal – Fundraise For My Own Kiln

So! the way forward for me and my creative work is to become self reliant and get a kiln so I can fire work whenever I am ready.  The purpose of this site is to share with you some staple items that I will make to order, the sale of which will go into a Kiln Fundraising Account.

I will occasionally have some speciality items that will be raffled off and the product range will expand as I refine my processes.  Your support and encouragement is greatly appreciated and I thank you for helping me achieve my goal.
